Dreadlock Care Tips
Installing and Maintaining Synthetic Dread Extensions:
Duration of Wear:
Expect to enjoy your Synthetic Dreads for about 6-8 weeks. Keep in mind that the longer they stay in, the more loose hair accumulates, making them knottier and harder to detangle during removal.
Sleeping Tips:
Sleeping with your dreads can feel different initially. To ease any discomfort and prevent frizz, consider wearing a (satin) Night Cap. Alternatively, securing your hair in a bun can also help maintain your dreadlocks while you sleep.
Washing Routine:
- Pre-Wash: Before washing, remove any easily detachable dread jewelry. Small beads and wrappings can usually remain.
- Washing Frequency: Aim to wash your scalp and hair once a week or every other week using a natural, residue-free shampoo or a cleansing spray.
- Washing Process: Apply a small amount of shampoo, massaging it gently into your scalp and down to the tips of the dreadlocks. Thoroughly rinse the dreads with water post-shampoo. Consider using a Shower Cap for times when you don't wish to wash the dreads entirely.
Scalp Care:
- Itchy Scalp: Sometimes, wearing Synthetic Dreads can cause scalp itchiness due to tight installation or inadequate drying. A apple cider/water Spray can offer relief by calming the scalp.
Removal Process:
- Precision Removal: Take out the extensions one by one, starting by carefully cutting the rubber bands with scissors.
- Unwrapping: Gently unwrap your natural hair from each dreadlock.
- Detangling: Use a comb to work through each hair strand, starting from the bottom and moving upwards towards the roots.
- Natural Shedding: Expect to see loose hairs released during this process. Around 100 hairs a day naturally shed and get trapped within the dreadlocks. This isn't damaging your hair—it's a regular shedding process.
- Post-Removal Care: Once all extensions are removed, it's a good time to wash your hair to restore its freshness.
Following these steps will help maintain the health of your hair and ensure a seamless transition during the removal and reinstallation of your dreadlock extensions.
Reuse Instructions:
Synthetic Dreads are reusable for years! After removal, hand wash them, dry them and hang ready for reuse.
